Scholarly Literature Search workshops - BME
Two training workshops on Scholarly Literature Search were delivered by IU Library on 10 March. The trainings, requested by BME Department, aimed to equip the students of Introduction to BME subject necessary skills in locating/searching for academic sources.
The workshops focused on: The importance of scholarly materials in academic writing; How to develop appropriate search strategies; How to use PubMed, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and Springer; and How to extract citations when using online resources.
Another implicit goal of the trainings was to change the behaviors of learners in using search engines/databases. In the Lab, participants were continually asked to compare the retrieved sources between Google Search and academic databases. As a result they appeared to recognize the relevance of scholarly resources in academic activities.
